Tree removal, pruning, stump grinding and 24/7 emergency tree services across Elsternwick — from Redback Tree Services, inner south-eastern Melbourne's trusted local arborists for over 15 years.
Elsternwick's leafy inner residential streets sit behind an established canopy of mature plane trees, jacarandas, ornamental figs and various exotic garden species that give the suburb a genuinely distinctive character. Many of these trees grow on compact period blocks where access is tight, overhead lines are close and the margin for error during removal is small.
Redback Tree Services has worked across Elsternwick and the broader Glen Eira area for over 15 years. We handle tree removal, pruning, stump grinding and emergency response across the suburb. Our arborists understand Glen Eira City Council's permit requirements and the specific precision needed for tree work on Elsternwick's tightly-built residential and heritage-adjacent streets.
Got a large ornamental that's outgrown its position next to a period home? Jacaranda roots lifting your driveway? Storm damage after an overnight blow? We'll assess it properly, advise on council requirements and quote it with complete transparency.
From routine pruning to complex removals on established inner-Melbourne properties — handled properly, by qualified arborists.
Safe, controlled removal of dead, hazardous, storm-damaged and overgrown trees across Elsternwick. We use professional rigging, rope systems and specialist machinery to dismantle trees precisely — protecting your property, fences and garden throughout, even in the tightest Elsternwick sites.

Elsternwick's compact period blocks and Glen Eira City Council's planning requirements mean tree work here involves more upfront assessment and careful on-site planning than suburban removals. Our arborists carry this preparation into every Elsternwick job.
Arrival times kept. Work done efficiently. Site left clean. Whether it's a single stump or a large heritage-adjacent removal in Elsternwick, every job gets the same professional attention.
All green waste chipped and removed. Wood chips left on request as free garden mulch. Your Elsternwick property looks better when we leave than when we arrived.
After a tree comes down, the stump is often the forgotten problem. Left in place, stumps become a trip hazard, an invitation for termites and white ants, and a breeding ground for fungal disease that can spread to neighbouring plants. On Elsternwick's established properties — where trees have often been growing for decades — root systems can extend much further than expected, particularly under paving, paths and driveways.
Our stump grinding service removes stumps completely below ground level, leaving a clean result that's ready for lawn, garden beds, paving or new planting. We carry compact grinders that fit through standard side gates, including machines capable of working in tight inner-city gardens and courtyard spaces with no direct vehicle access.
Elsternwick's established trees — whether they're plane trees, oaks, eucalypts or ornamental species — all have different pruning requirements and respond differently to cutting. Pruning incorrectly can actually increase limb failure risk, create entry points for disease and generate weak regrowth that becomes a structural problem years later. Good pruning requires genuine understanding of the species, not just a chainsaw.
Our arborists carry out crown reduction, crown lifting, deadwooding and structural pruning — all to Australian Standards AS 4373. Whether you need clearance over a period roofline, hazard reduction on an ageing tree, or formative pruning on a younger planting to establish good structure early — we'll advise on the right approach and do the work properly.
Storm damage, fallen tree, hazardous limb threatening your home or blocking access? Don't wait. We respond across Elsternwick and surrounding suburbs day and night.

Elsternwick's mature plane trees and jacarandas can drop significant limbs in storm events. A limb across a period roofline or compact driveway needs qualified attention — fast.
An established tree whose canopy has extended over a terrace home, shared wall or heritage facade in Elsternwick requires specialist removal. The margin for error is small and the consequences of damage are significant.
A dead jacaranda or ornamental fig on a compact Elsternwick block can fall without warning. Prompt removal avoids a much more complex — and expensive — job.
Jacarandas and ornamental figs are notorious for their invasive root systems on Elsternwick's older properties. Root intrusion into driveways, footings and old drainage lines is common. Removal and stump grinding resolves the underlying cause.
Renovation works on Elsternwick's period properties often require arborist assessment to determine what protection or removal is needed before works begin — and council may require documentation as part of the planning permit process.
Glen Eira City Council protects significant trees across Elsternwick. Removal or major pruning without the correct permit can result in substantial fines — proper advice before any work is essential.
The tree issues we see most often on Elsternwick properties — and how we deal with them.
Elsternwick's established plane trees require precise seasonal pruning to stay structurally sound. Done incorrectly, they develop weak regrowth at cut points that fails years later — often more dangerous than the original issue.
Jacarandas are a defining feature of Elsternwick's streetscape but their root systems are notoriously invasive on compact blocks. Root intrusion under driveways, paths and old drainage lines is extremely common — stump grinding with root removal addresses it properly.
Glen Eira City Council's significant tree protections are detailed and property-specific. Our arborists confirm the permit status of your tree and address before any work is recommended — this is standard practice on every Elsternwick job.
Removing a tree growing against a heritage-listed terrace or period wall in Elsternwick requires precision rigging and controlled dismantling. The risk of structural damage during removal is real — we plan these jobs carefully.
Fast-growing ornamentals planted decades ago regularly outgrow their position on Elsternwick's compact blocks. Reduction pruning buys time; removal and replanting is often the right long-term decision.
After significant storm events, Elsternwick's older, taller trees are prone to delayed limb failure. We inspect affected trees for structural damage that isn't visible at ground level until the tree actually fails.
What you'll actually pay depends on the tree and the site — not a flat rate. Here's what affects the price.
Tree removal pricing in Elsternwick varies depending on tree size and species, proximity to period structures, access, permit requirements and technical complexity. A small ornamental in a rear courtyard is a completely different proposition to a large jacaranda adjacent to a shared heritage wall.
