Doncaster-specific knowledge
We Know Doncaster's Trees & Council Rules
Doncaster falls under Manningham City Council, which doesn't apply a single blanket local law the way some neighbouring municipalities do. Instead, whether you need a permit depends on which planning overlay, if any, covers your property. On a standard General Residential Zoned block under 4000 square metres with no overlay, you generally won't need a permit to remove a private tree. If your property carries an Environmental Significance Overlay, Vegetation Protection Overlay or Significant Landscape Overlay, a planning permit is required.
Our arborists work Doncaster's streets regularly, from the older established blocks near Westfield through to the newer townhouse developments closer to Doncaster East. Manningham's overlay system means the exact same tree can require a permit on one side of a street and not the other, which is why we check the planning maps before quoting any job here.
Common trees we work on in Doncaster:
River Red Gum
Manna Gum
Spotted Gum
Lemon-Scented Gum
Silver Birch
Liquidambar
Claret Ash

Manningham City Council Tree Permits
Manningham does not run a blanket local law size threshold. Permit requirements depend on whether your property carries an ESO, VPO, SLO or Heritage Overlay. We check the planning scheme for your address before any work starts.
No OverlayStandard General Residential Zoned blocks under 4000m2 without any overlay generally don't need a permit to remove a private tree.
ESO / VPOEnvironmental Significance and Vegetation Protection Overlays require a planning permit to remove, destroy or lop covered vegetation, sometimes regardless of tree size.
DevelopmentClause 52.37 Canopy Tree Protection applies to many new residential developments, requiring retention assessments before removal.
FinesManningham can pursue fines through the Magistrates' Court for unauthorised removal, with penalties reported as high as $140,000 in serious cases.
We check Manningham's planning maps, prepare permit applications where required, and write the supporting arborist reports on your behalf.
